Héctor Casanova

Héctor Casanova Pagán (born November 18, 1942 in Santiago de Cuba , † May 17, 2007 in Yonkers ) was a Cuban singer and composer.

Casanova went to the USA in 1962 and lived there first in Boston, then in Brooklyn. There he joined Lalo Olivares ' sextet La Neoyorquina , with whom he recorded the song Rompe tu pared . He later became a member of the Orquesta Dicupé . From 1966 he was a member of The Earl Coleman Orchestra , then Luis Bauzós Conjunto Tambó .

In 1975 he succeeded Pete Rodríguez in the Johnny Pachecos Orchestra. He became internationally known with the albums El maestro (1975), El artista (1977) and Los amigos (1979). In 1980 he founded his own orchestra with which he recorded the albums Casanova and Montuno y las muchachas . In 1986 he returned to Pacheco. His last appearance was in Madison Square Garden . There he sat in a wheelchair and sang the song El agua del clavelito . In 2007 he died of colon and lung cancer at Saint John Hospital.
