Hector D. Abruña
Héctor Daniel Abruña (* 1953 in San Juan , Puerto Rico ) is an American chemist working in the field of electrochemistry . He is Director of the Energy Materials Center and Émile M. Chamot Professor of Chemistry at Cornell University in Ithaca , New York . Abruña is working on the development of new materials for fuel cells and batteries .
Abruña earned a bachelor's degree in 1975 and a master's degree from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1976 and a Ph.D. with Royce W. Murray and Thomas J. Meyer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . He worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Allen J. Bard at the University of Texas at Austin . In 1982 Abruña received a first professorship (assistant professor) at the University of Puerto Rico , before moving to Cornell University in 1983 in the same position . In 1987 he became a research fellow of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation ( Sloan Research Fellow ). In 1988 he became an associate professor and in 1991 he was given a full professorship. From 2004 to 2008 he was Head of the Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Cornell University.
Abruña is (as of 2016) the author of more than 440 scientific publications . According to Google Scholar (as of September 2019), it has an h-index of 98.
