Héctor Gutiérrez Ruiz

Héctor "Toba" Gutiérrez Ruiz (born February 21, 1934 in Montevideo , † May 1976 in Buenos Aires ) was a Uruguayan politician and journalist .

From 1959 to 1960 he studied philosophy in Spain. In 1961 he married Matilde Rodríguez Larreta , with whom he had five children. One of his sons is Mateo Gutiérrez . From 1971 to 1972 he was the head of the daily El Debate . Gutiérrez Ruiz, who belonged to the Partido Nacional , sat in the 40th and 41st legislative periods as a member of the Tacuarembó Department from February 15, 1967 until the coup on June 27, 1973 in the Cámara de Representantes . 1972 and 1973 he held the office of President of the Chamber. After he fled to Argentina after the coup d'état and sometimes lived there in illegal accommodation with Zelmar Michelini and Mario Benedetti , he, like Michelini and the Tupamaro activists Rosario Barredo and William Whitelaw, became part of Operation Condor on the night of May 19 Kidnapped in 1976 by an Argentine-Uruguayan military command. On May 20, 1976, they were found tortured and murdered in a car. The kidnapping and murder is the subject of the documentation Destino Final .
