Héctor Morán , full name Héctor Eduardo Morán , (born February 13, 1962 in Durazno ) is a former Uruguayan football player .

Career

society

The 1.75 meter tall midfielder Morán was at the beginning of his career from 1982 to mid-1987 in the ranks of Club Atlético Cerro . From mid-1987 to mid-1992 he was a player for Nacional Montevideo . With the Bolsos he won the Copa Libertadores in 1988 , where he was substituted on in the second final game against the Newell's Old Boys . In the subsequent World Cup final on December 11, 1988 in Tokyo against PSV Eindhoven, he also worked as a substitute and missed his penalty in the penalty shoot-out. In the following year, his club won the Copa Interamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana . In the associated finals, however, he only took part in the first leg of the Copa Interamericana. This was followed by a career station in Argentina at Deportivo Mandiyú that lasted until mid-1995 . From there he moved to Paraguay to the Club Olimpia . In July 1996 he returned to Cerro and was active there until mid-1997. After that, Morán, who was nicknamed "Indio" when he was active, played for the Chilean club Unión Española in 1997 and Central Español from Montevideo in 1998 . At the latter club he ended his career in 1998 after kicking the referee's butt in a second division match against Racing . 2004 saw a comeback at Alianza Montevideo .

National team

Morán made his debut on August 7, 1988 in the Uruguayan senior team . He scored his first of two goals in the "Celeste" jersey in the 4-1 defeat on December 20, 1992 in a friendly against Germany . He also scored on July 17, 1993 in a 3-0 win over Peru. He played a total of 23 international matches and scored two goals. He was on the squad at the tournaments for the Copa America in 1991 and 1993 . His last national team appearance was on August 15, 1993, when he drew 1-1 with Uruguay under coach Luis Alberto Cubilla in World Cup qualifying against Brazil.

After the active career

At least in 2014, Morán was the sports coordinator of the Uruguayan football players' union Mutual Uruguaya de Futbolistas Profesionales .
