The Hòa-Phát-Gruppe Aktiengesellschaft (Vietnamese Công ty cổ phần Tập đoàn Hòa Phát , English Hoa Phat Group Joint Stock Company ) is a Vietnamese conglomerate with a focus on steel production and processing. The listed group of companies, headquartered in Hanoi, is one of the largest private companies and the largest steel manufacturer in the country.

history

Hòa Phát was founded by Trần Đình Long after the economic liberalization of Vietnam in August 1992 as a trading company for construction machinery . In the next few years, the production and trading of furniture (1995), steel pipes (1996), crude steel (2000), refrigerators (2001) and real estate (2001) followed as new business areas .

In 2007 the group was restructured into a group of companies with a holding company. Since November 2007 the Hòa-Phát group has been listed on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE) under the ticker symbol HPG .

The steel mill built in 2000/01 in the H Provinzng Yên province was followed by a second in the Hải Dương province in 2007 and a third in Dung Quất ( Quảng Ngãi province ) in 2017 . In 2009 the mining company An Thong Mineral Investment was also taken over. In 2016, the production of galvanized steel sheets started .

In 2015, Hòa Phát started producing feed for the agricultural sector, opening up a new business area. A year later followed the entry into the mass livestock farming (cattle, pigs, poultry) and the trade in Australian cattle.

The group of companies is the market leader in the fields of structural steel and steel tubes in Vietnam (with a market share of around 25% each). 2.4 million tons of steel were produced in 2018. Iron and steel production accounts for around 80% of total sales. In addition, Hòa Phát is also the market leader in Vietnam in the area of office furniture .

The turnover increased from 33,885 billion Dong in 2016 to 56,580 billion Dong in 2018. Overall, the Group employs about 20,000 people (end 2018).

Measured in terms of market capitalization , Hòa Phát is the third-largest listed company in the country after Vingroup and Vinamilk , roughly on a par with the Masan Group . The founder and chairman Trần Đình Long owns around 25 percent of the shares in the group and is by far the largest shareholder.

Hòa Phát was the main sponsor and namesake of the Hòa Phát Hà Nội football club, which existed from 2003 to 2011 .
