The Hôtel-Dieu in Château-Thierry , a town in the Aisne department in the Picardy region of France , is a former hospital. The building has been protected as an architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 2007 .

history

The Hôtel-Dieu was in 1304 by the French Queen Joanna I founded. It was looked after by Augustinian women until the secularization in 1792 and originally had ten beds, the number of which was increased to 23 at the end of the 17th century when the hospital was expanded thanks to foundations. Under the priory of Anne de la Bretonnière - from 1683 to 1714 - the oldest part of the Hôtel-Dieu, the residential building of the Augustinians and the chapel built in 1694, was built.

In 1983 the hospital was closed and since 2010 the Musée du Trésor de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Château-Thierry has been located in the building .

architecture

The part of the building in which the sick were housed was rebuilt from 1876 to 1879 according to plans by the architect Eugène Rouyer . These buildings were built in the shape of a U They are made of brick , only the window frames and the facade decorations are made of natural stone . The roofs are covered with slate .
