Högadals Idrottssällskap was founded in 1921. The football team initially only appeared in a lower class. In the 1934/35 season, the club played third-rate for the first time, but rose again straight away. In 1939 he returned to Division 3 . This time the team was able to establish itself at this level of play and straight away got in the relay Sydöstra placements in the front of the table. In 1943, the club was the first season winner, in the promotion games to the second division , however, failed to Kalmar FF . In the following two seasons they became runner-up when the club fell fourth in the table of a league reform in which the third division was reorganized and the 17 third division seasons were combined into four seasons. The return to the third division in the season 1953/54 failed, as the bottom of the table with seven plus points, the team rose again directly. However, the direct relegation was followed by immediate promotion and this time as runner-up behind IFK Kristianstad almost even made it through to the second division. After another runner-up title, the team demonstrated the longest stamina in the 1957/58 season, which was extended due to the changeover to seasons in the annual rhythm and was able to celebrate the relay victory in Division 3 Sydöstra Götaland and thus promotion to the second division with seven points ahead of Olofström IF .
In the Östra Götland relay , Högadals IS was able to convince right away and was third in the table at the end of the first second division season in the history of the club, season winner Landskrona BoIS was six points ahead. A year later the same place was taken, the gap to the season winner - IFK Kristianstad - was only two points. In the 1961 season, the team was two points ahead of the Kristianstad relay winner. In the following promotion games, the club had to play against Djurgårdens IF , GIF Sundsvall and Östers IF . After two wins at the start, the defeat against DIF no longer hurt , both clubs were already promoted to the Allsvenskan.
The first division season in 1962 was unsuccessful for Högadals IS. With only three wins and three draws, the team had to take the direct route back to the lower house. In the two following second division seasons, the club was able to place in the front part of the table, but had nothing to do with the promotion. The 1965 season ended for the club on a relegation zone and together with IFK Kristianstad and local rivals IFK Karlshamn , the gang had to be started in the third division.
After a season marked by relegation battle in 1966, Högadals IS was initially able to establish itself in the front area of the third division in the following years, but at the beginning of the 1970s it went downhill. In 1972, at the end of the season, the team found itself only on a relegation zone. In the fourth division succeeded in the championship and thus the direct return to Division 3. In 1976 there was repeated relegation, which was again followed by the immediate return. 1986 came the club in the course of a league reform in the now fourth-class Division 3. In this the team played six years, mostly against relegation. This took place in 1992 and until the recovery in 1998, the club only played fifth class. In the following years the club established itself as an elevator team between fourth and fifth level. In 2006 the team was relegated to the sixth division.
