Höllental (Hesse)

The Höllental is located between the communities Berkatal and Eschwege in the Hessian Werra-Meißner district .

location

With a total length of about 10 km, the Höllental, accompanied by the Berka River, meanders through a plant-rich and mountainous landscape between Frankershausen and Albungen in the eastern Meißner foreland . The valley forms the south-eastern end of the Soodener Bergland . The Höllental with its narrow gorges and steep cliffs can be easily reached via the L 3242 road .

Attractions

  • A little south of the Höllental, in the valley of the Berka tributary Kupferbach , is the former Grube Gustav copper mine , which is open to the public as a visitor mine from March to October.
  • The infrastructure includes numerous hiking trails and the catering facilities in the “Höllental” inn.
  • Bilstein Castle rises above the Höllental . Only a few remains of the wall have survived. There is the 3 hectare nature reserve "Bilstein im Höllental".
  • Another attraction is the Schnepfenburg castle ruins .
