For Albungen there is the Protestant parish Albungen-Hitzelrode, with the Albungen Evangelical Church . Before the Second World War , tobacco was grown in the village. In 1939 the place had 331 inhabitants. Even then, Albungen belonged to the district court and tax office of Eschwege.

On April 1, 1972, the previously independent place was incorporated into the district town of Eschwege as part of the regional reform in Hesse .

sports clubs

The Edelweiß Albungen 1929 e. V. and TTC 1962 Albungen eV are the only two clubs in Albungen that are active in league play. The cycling club is a regional flagship in artificial cycling and cycling ball. In 2019 the club hosted a World Cup match day in cycling. David Stübner has been the club's chairman since 2016. Until then, Gerd Gries, now honorary chairman, had led the club for over 40 years.

The TTC, the local table tennis club, is the oldest independent table tennis club in the former Eschwege district. Since the club was founded in 1962 by 27 members, women and men have been playing equally in the club, and the Albungers are pioneers of women's table tennis in the Werra-Meißner district. In 2003 the first women's team was promoted to the Hessen League - the greatest success to date. In 2015, the first women's team was fifth at the German Cup Championships of the district upper division in Gütersloh. For men, promotion to the association league in 2017 and sixth place in this class in 2020 was the biggest triumph so far. The association's chairman is Nico Beck. Honorary President is Siegfried Furchert, who until 2016 had headed the association for a total of 53 years.

The TTC 1962 Albungen e. V. because of the relatively high number of spectators at home games of the 1st men's team. In the years 2016 to 2018 alone, the club played six times in front of over 100 spectators and in these years had an average attendance of up to 70 visitors per game.
