In 1933 the place had 693 inhabitants. Even then, Oberhone was part of the Eschwege district court and tax office.

On January 1, 1974, was in the course of administrative reform in Hesse until then independent municipality in the county seat Eschwege incorporated .

Church and Anger

Anger with a church and musician's house.

The branch church of the Niederhoner Church, located on the Anger in the village center, is a building from the early 16th century. The church, first mentioned in 1501, was changed in 1737, according to the dating above the walled-up portal on the south side, to a simple hall church in baroque form through extensive work . The nave has a high hipped roof and the church tower on the south-west corner has a curved hood . The church, which was renovated in 1981, is a cultural monument due to its artistic, structural and historical importance. The semicircular meadow surrounded by linden trees has one of the last preserved musician's houses in the district as a special feature. The well-kept complex, which was redesigned for the 700th anniversary in 1960, contributed significantly to the fact that the place was able to come up with many successes in the regional decision in the competition "Our village should be more beautiful" . The linden tree in front of the Musikantenhäuschen was designated as a natural monument in 1936 and the entire ensemble is listed because of its historical significance as a testimony to rural life.

For the listed cultural monuments of the place see the list of cultural monuments in Oberhone .
