The church in Niederhone

Niederhone is a district of Eschwege in the Werra-Meißner district in Hesse .

geography

Niederhone is located to the north-west of Eschwege (separated by an industrial park) in northern Hesse . The state road 3403 runs through the village. In the north the federal road 249 , in the west the federal road 27 leads past the place.

history

The village was first mentioned in 860 with the place name Hônide . The place was the center of the Honermark and, as the seat of an archpriest, the center of the Eschweg basin.

The tower from 1508, which was given a baroque dome in 1751, points to an older church. The original nave was demolished before 1896 and replaced by a new neo-Gothic building designed by the architect Gustav Schönermark. The artistic glazing from the Marburg glass painter's workshop KJ Schultz is part of the design of this new building.

In 1925 the place had 1,425 inhabitants. Even then, Niederhone belonged to the district court and tax office of Eschwege. On April 1, 1936, the village was incorporated into Eschwege, as land was needed to build the Eschwege air base.

Niederhone received a rail connection in 1875 when the line from Bebra to Eschwege was built. The Niederhone station (renamed Eschwege West from 1936 through the incorporation of Niederhones) was the intersection of the Kanonenbahn and the Bebraer Bahn . Until December 2009, the Bebra – Göttingen railway only ran past the western edge of the town. On December 12, 2009, the branch line to Eschwege Stadtbahnhof was reopened after renovation and electrification and a stop was built in Niederhone.

There is a Protestant church and a Protestant kindergarten in the village .

For the listed buildings of the place see the list of cultural monuments in Niederhone .
