course

The Berka, which flows entirely in the Frau-Holle-Land Geo-Nature Park (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) rises on the northeast flank of the Hohe Meißner ( 753.6  m above sea  level ). Its source is 1.6 km northeast of the Kasseler Kuppe , the highest point on the mountain range. It is located a little below the mountain meadows next to state road  3242, which leads from Schwalbenthal (massive east flank), past the Frau-Holle pond and the source in a south-south-west-north-north-east direction to Kammerbach .

The Berka runs in its Bachtal called Höllental in a predominantly eastward direction through the municipality of Berkatal . It flows through the village of Frankenhain about 1 km below its source . From then on, it runs through Frankershausen , where the Bornaibach, fed by the Breitenborn and Kressenborn , joins - up to its confluence along the L 3242 . Then it passes the peasantry Schafhof , the forester's house smelter that not far away at its inflow Kupferbach preferred visitor's mine Grube Gustav and the inn Frau Holle . The Berka then flows - high above it - past the remains of Bilstein Castle , the Hohe Schanze Wallburg and the Schnepfenburg castle ruins .

Finally, after crossing under the federal road 27 and the Bebra – Göttingen railway line south of Albungen , a north-western part of Eschwege , the Berka flows into the Weser source river Werra , which flows here from the east-southeast .
