The Kupferbach is a southwest and right tributary of the Berka in the Hessian Werra-Meißner-Kreis ( Germany ), which - depending on which source stream you measure - is 5.8 km or 7.2 km long.

The stream runs in the municipality of Meißner exclusively in the geo-nature park Frau-Holle-Land (Werratal.Meißner.Kaufunger Wald) and belongs to the river system of the Weser .

course

The Kupferbach rises on the eastern flank of the Hoher Meißner mountain range . Its northwest source stream arises in an agricultural area northwest of Vockerode at around 345  m above sea level. NHN and the southwest source stream west of Vockerode in Schwalbenthal, located south-southeast below the Kalbe, at an altitude of about 490  m .

The Kupferbach flows mainly in an easterly direction. Its short source streams unite in Vockerode at a height of about 280  m . The stream then runs - passing the “Unter-” and “Papiermühle” - immediately northwest past Abterode and then past the “Dammühle” and the Gustav Pit , a little further away to the east , a former copper mine now operated as a visitor mine .

The "Kupperbach-Bruck" stands about 1.2 km from the confluence of the Kupferbach in the Berka. This bridge was built at the beginning of the 20th century in order to bring the heavy spar extracted from the "Grube Gustav" between 1900 and 1967 to Berkatal for further processing. The writer Helene Brehm took over the sponsorship of this structure, which is still passable today.

Finally, the Kupferbach flows into the Höllental between the forester's lodge “Schmelzhütte”, where the copper ore was once smelted, in the west and the inn “Frau Holle” in the east, on the right-hand side at around 190  m above sea level in the western Werra tributary Berka .

useful information

On its way, the Kupferbach loses about 300 m difference in altitude from its farthest source (southwest), which corresponds to a mean bed gradient of 41.67 ‰ for a river length of 7.2 km. The catchment area has a size of 10,572 km².

Due to the purity of the water in the Kupferbach, you can find the rare brook lamprey , crayfish , numerous trout , as well as rare aquatic and bank plants.
