Hünenburg Steinbergen

The Hünenburg Steinbergen is the castle site of a small medieval castle ramparts , the remains of which are located on a spur on the northern edge of the Weser Valley, southeast of Steinbergen , a district of Rinteln in the Schaumburg district in Lower Saxony . It is probably about the Stenborch , handed down from the 12th century , which gave the settlement its name.

location

The former spur castle is located about 300 meters southeast of the outskirts on a slightly raised terrain spur, the tip of which has been destroyed by gravel mining . The core of the facility has a size of 40 × 30 m and has been preserved. About 50 meters away there is a section trench that is three meters deep and up to seven meters wide.

description

Based on its size, shape and location, the Hünenburg Steinbergen can be dated to the 11th to 12th centuries. A local historian sees it as the second castle of Count Uffo, which has not been reliably located until now, and according to tradition, he owned two castles in the 9th century. The other Uffoburg is a facility near Bremke .
