Huseyin Aktaş

Hüseyin Aktaş (born March 25, 1941 in Erzincan ; † July 26, 2012 ) was a Turkish marathon runner .

In 1963 he won bronze at the Mediterranean Games , and in 1966 he came in 22nd place at the European Athletics Championships in Budapest . At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, he finished 25th. In 1969, with his personal best of 2:16:44 h, he was fifth at the Athens Marathon and eleventh at the European Championships in Athens . In 1970 he won the Balkan Games , and in 1971 he came in 30th place at the European Championships in Helsinki and won silver at the Mediterranean Games. He won three more times at the Balkan Games: 1972, 1973 (together with his compatriot İsmail Akçay ) and 1976. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he came in 37th. In 1971 he became Turkish champion.

His daughter Serap Aktaş was also successful as a marathon runner.
