The Hüttenberger Chapel

The Hüttenberger Kapelle is a mountain chapel in the municipality of the Mömbris market in the Lower Franconian district of Aschaffenburg in Spessart .

geography

The chapel stands in the Kahlgrund on an open field between Mensengesäß and Oberschur on the southeast slope of the Herrenberg (343 m) at about 300 m.

history

The Hüttenberg chapel was built around 1650 and is dedicated to the 14 helpers in need from Hüttenberg. The chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1869. The small church and a Wendelinus wayside shrine from 1757 are reminiscent of the deserted village of Hüttenberg , which was there until the 19th century. After the Second World War , the chapel threatened to collapse, but donors were found who had the monument thoroughly renovated. The wayside shrine, which lay broken next to the chapel for almost 20 years, was restored and put up again in 1962.

Tell about the origin of the chapel

According to a legend, a farmer wanted to run from Hüttenberg to Krombach to the church. On the way he got an inspiration and turned back. When he got home, he saw a tramp who wanted to stab his wife. This fled and was no longer seen. As a thank you, the farmer had the chapel built.
