Hălmeag (German Halmagen , Hungarian Halmágy ) is a village in the municipality of Șercaia (German Schirkanyen , Hungarian Sárkány ) in Transylvania , Romania and is located in the valley of the Olt River (German old ) east of Făgăraş (German Fogarasch , ung. Fagaras ). The place has about 600 inhabitants.

history

The Protestant church with the remains of the fortification is one of the oldest churches in Transylvania and Eastern Europe with those in Kerz and Michelsberg . It dates from the 11th century. In 1979 it was restored.

In Halmagen there is an Orthodox and an Evangelical Lutheran congregation with around 200 believers .
