H1Z1

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

H1Z1 is a massively online community game with community aspect developed by American studio Daybreak Game Company .

It was available in advance from January 15, 2015 to February 28, 2018 . In addition to the Windows version, a free version for the PlayStation 4 has also been available as part of an open beta test since May 22, 2018 . The game has been available for free since March 8, 2018, also known as free-to-play .

On February 17, 2016, developer Daybreak announced that it would split the game into two separate versions. The survival mode is now called "Just Survive", the BattleRoyale mode has been called "H1Z1" since October 19, 2017. Since then, the player pays for each title in the game individually when purchasing.

The sequel to the game, H1Z1: King of the Kill, was released for Windows on November 22, 2016. The game world was replaced by a larger world with the dimensions of 10 × 10 km, which is called "The Arena " .

Game world

Playing card

The game world of H1Z1 is located in the northwest of the USA and begins in a wooded and hilly area. Later swamps and deserts could possibly also be implemented in the game. In the game, you can gradually adapt or expand the game world. The bigger the game world, the more players can play there together.

At the beginning a player has 64 km² (8 × 8 km) of land available. Later an expansion to up to 16,000 km² (128 × 128 km) is planned. In comparison, DayZ offers an area of 225 km² (15 × 15 km).

Game mechanics and history

The game is set in the USA shortly after the outbreak of a zombie apocalypse . The player can fight in H1Z1 depending on the game type ( PvE or PVP ) against zombies, animals and other players and play with them together. He can also build huts, explore the game world and collect loot .

On February 28, 2018, a new game mode called Autoroyale was released for the Battle Royale version of the game .

Current status of the game

Since Daybreak made numerous changes to both the gameplay and the weapon behavior ( Recoil ), there was heavy criticism from the community, which Daybreak ignored. Since H1Z1 was played competitively in esports tournaments, it was quite difficult for the players to learn new weapons during the frequent updates of weapon behavior. H1Z1 was the most successful battle royale game on the market at the time , before it was replaced by PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds and Fortnite . After the release of the so-called Combat Update , the number of players dropped rapidly. Weapons that the community found unnecessary and unbalanced were implemented in the game and the so-called bullet speed (speed of the projectile) and bullet drop (ballistic trajectory of the projectile) were changed.

This dispute ultimately led Daybreak to hand over the PC version of H1Z1 to the game developer NantG , who now took care of the programming. It was renamed Z1 Battle Royale and was a reprogramming of the game, which the community had previously requested from Daybreak. Since many players had already turned away from H1Z1, Z1BR could not build on old successes and NantG gave the development of the game back to Daybreak.

A new game released in 2019 called Planetside Arena was also penalized by the community as a result of the H1Z1 incident. Too low player numbers and the bad reputation ultimately led to the discontinuation of development and shutdown of the Planetside Arena servers on January 10, 2020. In addition, numerous developers from Daybreak's management were laid off.
