The Entega AG (until 20 August 2015 HEAG Südhessische Energie AG (HSE) ) is a power company based in Darmstadt .
Companies
As one of the first large regional suppliers, Entega has been almost entirely in municipal hands since 2012: In June 2012, the City of Darmstadt bought back 40 percent of the HSE shares from E.ON via HEAG Holding and has since held 93.13 percent of the shares. Another 5.12 percent are held by districts, cities and municipalities in southern Hesse.
With its more than 30 subsidiaries, the company is active in the fields of energy generation, energy trading, energy sales, energy and telecommunications networks, and drinking water supply. In addition, the company operates systems for wastewater treatment and waste incineration and offers measurement, billing and IT services for the energy industry. HSE was awarded the renowned German Sustainability Prize in 2013 for its corporate strategy .
In 2013, the sales subsidiary at the time, ENTEGA, was one of the largest providers of climate-neutral energies in Germany with sales of 2.27 billion kWh of green electricity and 2.85 billion kWh of climate-neutral natural gas.
As of January 1, 2014, HSE had invested around 830 million euros in renewable energies and modern gas-fired power plants . HSE currently has 14 wind parks , four solar parks , 129 roof - mounted PV systems and four biogas systems with a total output of 290 MW under construction or in operation. The largest single investment is the stake in the Global Tech I wind farm in the North Sea. Another focus is the topic of energy efficiency. To this end, in 2014 the company, together with the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Frankfurt Rhein-Main and other partners, founded an advisory and brokerage platform for energy efficiency services called Efficiency Class .

In April 1912 the Hessische Eisenbahn AG (HEAG) was founded by the city of Darmstadt and the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . HEAG took over the trams from the city and the Centralstation, which went into operation in 1888 (the first power station in the Grand Duchy of Hesse ). It was later renamed HEAG Vertriebs AG.
The Darmstadt stock corporation for gas lighting founded in 1853 was even older. This company was founded privately by manufacturers and citizens and became the property of the city after 25 years. In 1914, the gas works were merged together with the water and sewage supply (the water works was established in 1880) to form the "Directorate of the municipal gas and water works". In 1939 the management was spun off as the municipal utility of the state capital Darmstadt into a separate company and in 1950 renamed Südhessische Gas und Wasser AG.
In 1971 a merger of the two companies was discussed but not implemented. In 2003 the HEAG supply AG and the Südhessische Gas und Wasser AG merged to form HEAG Südhessische Energie.
In 2013, the Darmstadt gas turbine power plant went into operation.
On August 21, 2015, HEAG Südhessische Energie AG ( HSE for short ) was renamed Entega AG, the brand name of the sales subsidiary Entega Energie .
Holdings
Within the group, energy trading is operated by the subsidiary Citiworks and energy sales by the subsidiary Entega Energie , which was created in 2013 from the merger of the three sales companies Entega Private Customers, Entega Business Customers and e-ben. The grid subsidiary responsible for operating the electricity and gas network in the southern Hesse region is E-Netz Südhessen , which was created on July 1, 2014 through the merger of the former subsidiaries HSE Technik and distribution network operator Rhein-Main-Neckar (VNB) is. The telecommunications provider Entega Medianet (formerly HSE Medianet) and the IT service provider “Count + Care” also belong to the group.
