British naval service
The Prince was in Portsmouth Harbor until 1794. In 1796 her hull was lengthened and she then entered the service of the Canal Fleet.
During the Battle of Trafalgar on October 21, 1805, the Prince fought under the command of Richard Grindall. The ship was sailing in the leeward line . The flagship of the British fleet with Vice Admiral Horatio Nelson commanded the windward line. The Prince sent her broadsides to the Spanish 112-gun flagship Principe de Asturias , and the French 74-gun ship Achille . Since there was no counterattack from the two ships, the Prince suffered no damage and hardly lost any people. The Achilles exploded and sank under heavy fire . After the battle that the British won, the Prince sailed for Gibraltar. From there she drove to Portsmouth, where she stayed.
