The HTL Donaustadt (also "HTL Wien 22" or "htl Donaustadt") is a higher technical college in Vienna , which was built in 1983 on a former industrial site. It offers both higher five-year courses leading to the Matura as well as four-year technical college courses.

Forms of training

Main entrance of the HTL Donaustadt (June 21, 2004)

Higher educational establishments / evening schools

Entry into a course in the higher departments is possible after completing the 8th year of compulsory schooling . These five-year courses conclude with a maturity and diploma examination ( Matura ). As part of the diploma project, the students then have to use what they have learned to solve a specific technical problem in teamwork. Graduates of the higher departments receive the certificate of proficiency to set up a business and can apply for the title of " engineer " after three years of relevant professional experience .

The training in the first two school years of the day school is similar in the electrical engineering , electronics and information technology departments , so that a change between the departments is still possible in principle. Switching to and especially from the IT department is difficult because it does not offer workshop lessons and the curriculum also differs greatly from the other departments in other ways.

In the evening school the training branches "Electronics - Technical Computer Science" and "Electronics - Telecommunications" are offered. Interested parties aged 17 and over can attend these courses in 6-10 semesters in evening classes .

Technical schools

As with the higher education institutions, entry is possible after the 8th year of compulsory schooling. The course is four years and ends with the final exam.

Higher Department of Computer Science (EDVO)

The two main training areas are IT and organization . In addition to different programming languages and database systems and the handling of the underlying technology, attention is also paid to a close connection with their economic aspects. The economic training includes, among other things, work in practice firms. As a special feature, the department has been offering bilingual classes with English as the working language for several years .

Higher department and college of electrical engineering

This department offers three branches of training: The higher departments for control engineering , for information technology and the technical college for electrical engineering. All branches of training together offer basic technical and humanistic training. During the first three (higher departments) or four (technical school) years, the students are taught how to use various technologies, working and manufacturing methods in a workshop. From the third year of the higher departments, practical lessons also take place in the laboratory .

Control engineering

The main focus is on imparting specialist knowledge about automated and regulated processes and their use in industry and research . This also includes the development of “intelligent products”.

Information technology

This branch of training focuses on the networking of computer systems and the distributed calculation of data in automated environments. In the course of this, programming skills as well as knowledge in dealing with various network and computer environments are imparted.

Electrical engineering college

The focus of the more practically oriented training in the technical school is the broadest possible training in the subject areas of electrical engineering. After completing the technical college, the 4-year practical workshop training provides training for a wide range of professions.

Higher department and technical college for electronics

Training takes place with a focus on electronics, technical informatics and telecommunications . The workshop training roughly corresponds to that in the electrical engineering department, and training in the laboratory also begins in the third year.

Technical computer Science

The aim is to impart technical knowledge about digital computers, their structure, functionality and programming.

telecommunications

The focus is on imparting technical expertise around consumer electronics , wireless communication and communication systems. An emphasis on hardware-related programming training is also part of this training course.

Electronics college

The practical training in the technical college offers a wide range of training in the subject areas of electronics. After completing the technical college, the 4-year practical workshop training provides training for a wide range of professions.

Higher Department of Information Technology

This relatively young department offers training with a focus on media technology or network technology . Similar to electrical engineering and electronics, it offers practical training, computer internship and laboratory training, but places a targeted training focus on ICT with information processing , display, transmission and use.
