Michaela Gigon (born March 21, 1977 ) is an Austrian military athlete who competes in orienteering competitions, especially mountain bike orienteering . She is multiple world champion in this sport.

Life

She graduated from HTL Donaustadt and, as a 20-year-old, took part in the orienteering world championships in 1997 in Grimstad , Norway . This was followed by further participation in the orienteering world championships on foot in 1999, 2006 and 2008, but no placements in the front field. In 2002 she took part in the first Mountain Bike Orienteering World Championships in France, finishing fifth on the short distance and eighth on the long distance. Between 2004 and 2006 she became world champion in the middle distance in mountain bike orienteering three times in a row. Then she became world champion in the long distance in 2007, in 2009 with the Austrian relay (with Lisi Hohenwarter and Sonja Zinkl ) and in 2010 for the fourth time in the middle distance. She became European champion in 2006 (long distance) and in 2009 with a clear lead on the sprint distance.

Gigon is a multiple national champion and national champion in orienteering, mountain bike orienteering and ski orienteering. She is a member of the OLT Transdanubia .
