Habibou Allélé

Habibou Allélé (* 1938 ; † December 9/10, 2016 in Tunis ) was a Nigerien politician and diplomat .

Life

Habibou Allélé belonged to the Tuareg ethnic group . He made a teacher training and worked from 1957 to 1969 as a school director. Allélé became Head of Cabinet of Health Minister Issa Ibrahim in 1969 . He soon switched to the diplomatic service and worked as Niger's ambassador in various African countries: from 1971 to 1974 in the Ivory Coast , from 1974 to 1980 in Ghana and from 1980 to 1982 in Senegal .

After his return he was mayor of the capital Niamey from 1982 to 1983 . After that he was a member of the Niger government. Habibou Allélé was Minister of Justice from 1983 to 1985 , Minister for Agriculture and Environment from 1985 to 1987, Minister for Mining and Energy from 1987 to 1988 and, most recently, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 1988 to 1989 . In 1989 he was one of the founding members of the then unity party MNSD-Nassara . In the parliamentary elections of 1989 he was elected as MNSD Nassara deputy in the constituency of Tchirozérine in the National Assembly, which was dissolved in 1991. After the introduction of the multi-party system , he was re-elected as MNSD Nassara MP in the parliamentary elections of 1993 and 1995 . He was a member of parliament until 1996.

In later years, Allélé served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nigerien uranium mining company Compagnie Minière d'Akouta . For the MNSD-Nassara he was party secretary for foreign affairs and member of the party's council of elders until his death. Habibou Elhadj Allélé died in Tunis in 2016, where he was staying for medical treatment.
