Location Port of Cotonou

The port of Cotonou ( French Port de Cotonou ) is a seaport in the Benin coastal city of Cotonou . It is the largest port in the country. It is operated by the Port Autonome de Cotonou. In addition to supplying Benin, a large part of the goods transport for the landlocked countries Niger and Burkina Faso , but also for Nigeria and Chad, runs via the port of Cotonous . About 75 percent of the budget of the State of Benin is financed from tax revenue, of which about 45 percent comes from customs revenue. The port of Cotonou generates around 80 percent of this customs revenue. This means that the port of Cotonous contributes to more than a quarter of the state budget of Benin.

Location and connection

The port is located in the extreme south of Benin on the Gulf of Guinea or on the Bay of Benin on the Atlantic Ocean . Cotonou is connected to neighboring countries by international highways , through which goods are transported. The city's freight yard is 750 meters north of the port .
