Hagar Ben-Ari

Hagar Ben-Ari ( Hebrew הָגָר בן ארי; * 1978 or 1979 in Tel Aviv-Jaffa ) is an Israeli bassist .

Life

Through her father, Carlos Ben Ari, who worked as a guitar teacher, Hagar came into contact with early musical education and initially learned the recorder and guitar . Her father made her try her sister's electric bass at the age of 13 .

Ben-Ari named Meshell Ndegeocello and Charles Mingus as her early musical influences . Later came Pino Palladino , Chuck Rainey and Paul Jackson . She rehearsed with her compatriot Yossi Fine - the former bassist of Ndegeocello - and quickly became known locally in Israel. Along with Achinoam Nini she toured Europe and then was bandleader of the house band of of Dudu Topaz moderated comedy talk show Rashut Habidur (later renamed Ha'Rishon Ba'Bidur ) - the most successful mission of the Israeli television history.

In search of new artistic challenges , she emigrated to the United States in 2003 and moved to New York City . There was Hagar Ben-Ari for four years a member of The Pimps of JOYTIME , a soul band from the municipality ( Borough ) Brooklyn . In 2008 she accompanied Moby on his world tour and in 2010 she played with Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings for some time . Among other things, they were the opening act for Prince and appeared at the Newport Folk Festival . This was followed by other collaborations of varying duration with Allison Miller’s Big Molasses (including at the Red Hook Jazz Festival 2013), Jason Crosby and Teddy Kumpel . After a jam session with multi-instrumentalist and improvisation artist Reggie Watts , she joined his band Karen , which has been the house band of the new The Late Late Show with James Corden on CBS since March 2015 , but also has frequent appearances outside of the show.

Hagar Ben-Ari mostly plays a Fender Precision Bass .
