Allison Miller (born 1974 or 1975 in Brooklyn ) is an American jazz musician ( drums , percussion , djembé ) and composer who is active in the music scene in New York City .

Live and act

Miller grew up in the Washington, DC area and began playing the piano at age seven before switching to drums at age ten. During her school days she had lessons from swing and big band drummer Walter Salb; she then studied percussion at West Virginia University . After moving to New York City, she continued her studies with Michael Carvin and Lenny White . Since the 1990s she has worked in folk and jazz a. a. with Ani DiFranco , Natalie Merchant , the Indigo Girls , Marty Ehrlich , Dr. Lonnie Smith , Mike Stern and Brandie Carlile . She toured Africa and Asia on behalf of the State Department . In 2004 she released the debut album 5am ​​Stroll . At the end of the decade she formed Allison Miller's Boom Tic Boom , with bassist Todd Sickafoose , pianist Myra Melford and violinist Jenny Scheinman ; with this band she was celebrated in 2011 at the Willisau Jazz Festival . Other band projects include EMMA with singer / songwriter Erin McKeown , TILT with Taylor Eigsti and bassist Jon Evans, and Agrazing Maze , with Ingrid Jensen , Enrique Haneine and Carlo DeRosa .
