Jessica Lurie (born October 3, 1967 in Cambridge (Massachusetts) ) is an American jazz musician ( alto , tenor saxophone , flute , accordion , vocals , composition ).

Act

Lurie has been in the Billy Tipton Memorial Saxophone Quartet since 1989 , which released its first album in 1993, with her powerful and passionate, but always group-serving contributions; it still belongs to the Tiptons today. Since 1995 she has also played with Arne Livingston and Dale Fanning in the band Living Daylights Grunge -Jazz, where she partly doubles her saxophone electronically ( 500 pound cat ). In 2001 she moved from Seattle to New York City , where she became part of the downtown scene. So she worked with Bill Frisell , Marc Ribot , Marty Ehrlich , Wayne Horvitz. She has released several albums with her Jessica Lurie Ensemble. She also recorded with Eyvind Kang , The Posies , the Indigo Girls and I Metropoliziani ( La luce azzurra ). She also wrote film music .
