The Pimps of Joytime are a funk band from Brooklyn and New Orleans . The band processes influences from soul, funk, punk, afrobeat and rap in their music.
"When all those lines and genres get blurred, anything can be soul: rock 'n' roll, punk. It's all soul to me, if it's soulful." said the band leader Brian J in an interview with NPR Music about the style of the band.
The members of the Pimps of Joytime come from New Orleans and Brooklyn and formed the band in New York City in 2005 . On the track H2O of the debut album High Steppin had Cyril Neville of the Neville Brothers with. The Israeli bassist Hagar Ben-Ari was the band's bassist from 2007 to 2011.
