Hagebölling is a locality in the town of Gevelsberg in the Ennepe-Ruhr district in the administrative district of Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia ( Germany ).

Location and description

Hagebölling is located in the Ennepe valley on federal road 7 near Gut Rocholz . The location emerged from an old estate , but is now part of a continuous development along the main road. The elevation, 326 m above sea level, to the south of the village is called Hageböllinger Kopf .

Etymology and history

Bolle is a mnd. Name for a round elevation and apparently refers to the mountain Hageböllinger Kopf south of the courtyard. The part of the name Hag indicates that the area of the farm was enclosed with a hedge.

Hagebölling was an important property in the Mylinghausen farmers in the late Middle Ages . In 1486 the estate was mentioned as Haege Bollynck in a list as a place to live with two farms. These two courtyards can be found in documents in the 17th century as Hagebölling and Nedderste Hagebölling or as Kleinhagebölling and Großhagebölling .

The estate was a royal domain at the beginning of the 19th century . For example, in 1800, on the instructions of the administration, nine families of factory workers were to be settled on the site against the will of the tenant, but only one of them actually claimed a piece of land. The court house, the only well-preserved Lower Saxony farmhouse in the district, burned down in 1904.
