Hagerman is a town 25 km south of Roswell in Chaves County of the US state of New Mexico ; of the approximately 1,150 inhabitants (as of 2003), two thirds are of Latin American origin.
Hagerman was created in 1894 when the Pecos Valley and Northeaster Railroad was built on the edge of the route; originally named after the nearby Felix River , a tributary of the Pecos River , named Felix , the place was soon renamed in honor of JJ Hagerman s, the builder of the railway line.
Hagerman is on New Mexico State Route 2 .
