history

The company was founded in Stuttgart in 1898 by Herrmann Hahn and Adolf Kolb . The first company headquarters of the “special shop for tools and machines” was on Tübinger Strasse in the south of Stuttgart. In 1904 the first catalog for tools appeared, in which the 450 illustrated pages were still written by hand. In 1913, with the acquisition of a workshop for automatic lathes, the foundation stone was laid for the company INDEX-Werke Hahn & Tessky KG , which still exists today under this company name in Esslingen. In 1915, Adolf Kolb left the company management as a partner and Heinrich Sauter became a new partner. In 1926, the expansion of the branch organization throughout Germany began with the first branch in Munich. From 1927 the second company headquarters was in the newly built house at Königstrasse 14, the first high-rise in Stuttgart, built in 1921/22 by Richard Döcker .

In 1929 the company started a new line of business: with the lapping and fine grinding machines, the first machines for tool manufacture were designed. It was followed by indexing table machines, tool grinding machines and multi-edge lathes. In 1939 international expansion began with the establishment of foreign branches in Milan and Vienna. After the end of the Second World War, the company had to relocate the production facilities in Feuerbach and the head office to neighboring rural areas due to severe damage. Reconstruction began in 1950. At what was then the Hanover Fair , the tool service provider occupied an exhibition hall with an area of 1850 m². In 1962, the first large in-house exhibition took place on the factory premises in Schorndorf . In 1973, the tool division moved to the newly constructed building in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. In 1986 the first technology center opened in Schorndorf. In the first year, more than 4,500 interested people attended training courses and demonstrations. In 1993 HAHN + KOLB had to file for bankruptcy.

In 1995, the newly founded was rescue company HAHN + KOLB Werkzeuge GmbH from Würth Group bought in Künzelsau. In 1996 the first HAHN + KOLB tool catalog was also published in digital form. The expansion of the international sales network began in 1998 with the establishment of various subsidiaries and catalog partnerships. In 2000 the company started an online shop for the tool trade. In 2011 the catalog appeared with QR codes and DataMatrix codes . At the beginning of 2012, the group of companies signed a purchase agreement with Daimler AG for the site in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, where the head office and logistics center were previously located. In June 2012, the groundbreaking for the new company building took place on the new site in Ludwigsburg's Mörikestrasse. In addition to the administration, the logistics center has also been located here since September 2013. On December 23, 2013 SVH Handels-GmbH was taken over.
