The Hahnen is a 2606 meter high mountain in the Urner Alps in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland . It is often referred to as Engelberg's local mountain .

etymology

The Hahnen was formerly also known as Engelberg , although this name is only used today for the place and the Engelbergertal .

geography

The summit is about four kilometers east of Engelberg and towers 1,600 meters above the valley floor. The Hahnen is in front of the higher Wissigstock and connected to it via the Fulenwassergrat . Two kilometers southeast of the summit are the Wissberg and Fürenalp , on the other side of the valley the Titlis .

Alpinism

The Hahnen can be reached by a demanding and partly pathless alpine hiking trail from Engelberg over the southern flank. In the upper part, the SAC installed iron bars and intermediate securing devices. The difficulty is given as T5 + on the SAC hiking scale .
