Hakimullah Mehsud (* around 1979 as Jamshed Mehsud in South Waziristan ; † November 1, 2013 in North Waziristan ) was a Pakistani Islamist. He was the leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) since 2009 . His predecessor in this position was Baitullah Mehsud , to whom he was not related. On September 1, 2010, the United States Department of State placed Mehsud and the TTP on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists , which allows financial sanctions against networks supporting them, while also offering a $ 5 million reward for clues leading to his capture to lead. As the leader of the Tehrik-i-Taliban, Mehsud was an important figure in the conflict in northwest Pakistan .

In 2010, the Pakistani secret service Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) reported on Mehsud's death. On January 15, 2012, the ISI again alleged that Mehsud had been killed by a drone . The TTP denied the information. On November 1, 2013, several media outlets reported that Mehsud had been hit by two rockets and killed as well as other people during a US Army drone attack on a vehicle parked in a Taliban facility in North Waziristan. The Pakistani military, and this time the Taliban too, confirmed his death.
