Halia (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Halia ( Greek  Ἁλία ) is a sea nymph in Greek mythology . She is the sister of the Telchinen , a daughter of Pontos and Thalassa . According to another genealogy , she was a daughter of Uranus . In any case, your name suggests a connection to the sea (salt).

Poseidon fathered six sons and a daughter, Rhode , who in turn, according to another genealogy, was a daughter of Poseidon and Amphitrite and gave the island of Rhodes its name.

When Aphrodite came to Rhodes , she was rejected by the sons of Halia. Beaten madly by the offended goddess, they raped their mother and did not neglect any other outrage. Poseidon banished the Halia sons underground. Desperate, Halia threw herself into the sea and became the goddess Leukothea .

Halia / Leukothea was very revered on Rhodes. This also included the annual Halia Festival.
