Halla Diyab

Halla Diyab is an Arab writer , TV producer and activist .

Diyab was born in Libya to a Syrian diplomat with Palestinian roots and a Lebanese mother whose family was evicted from Turkey to Syria . She holds a Master of Art in Gender and Women Studies from the University of Warwick . Diyab holds a PhD in English and American Studies from the University of Leicester . She conducted research in New Orleans, USA for her work entitled "The Examination of Marginality and Minorities in the Drama and Film of Tennessee Williams ". She wrote a number of screenplays for TV productions and soap operas on extremism and terrorism. She won the Best Syrian Drama Script Award 2010 and the Artists Achievement Award 2011.

She works as a commentator for UK and international media including Channel 4 News , BBC Newsnight , BBC This Week, CNN , Sky News , Channel 5 News , ITV Central , Al Jazeera English and BBC Radio 4 .

Diyab worked in Libya, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. She founded Liberty Media Productions , which deals with cross-cultural issues between the UK and the Middle East.
