Hallelujah (from Hebrew: Praise God! ) Is the 12th studio album by Marius Müller-Westernhagen . It was released on August 25, 1989 on WEA Records .
background
Halleluja is Westernhagen's second collaboration with producer René Tinner . Like its predecessor Westernhagen , the album was recorded in Can Studio in Weilerswist . The band again consisted of the rhythm section Charlie T. (Manfred Terstappen) on drums and Raoul Walton on bass. The band was completed by Helmut Zerlett on the Hammond organ and Jay Stapley on the guitar. The recordings for wind instruments, strings, percussion and grand piano were made by studio musicians in The Church studio in London and supervised by Danny Dawson. The wind section in London consisted of Vince Sullivan (trombone), John Thirkell (trumpet, trombone) and Chris Davis (saxophone). On the title Sexy played Pete Wingfield the wings . For the title Engel a string ensemble arranged by Rick Wentworth was recorded under the direction of Gavin Wright; Westernhagen's wife Romney did the vocals.
The album hit the German charts two weeks after its release , stayed at the top for three weeks and a total of 79 weeks. A concert of the sold out tour following the release was recorded for the album Live . The tour also made Westernhagen known outside of Germany.
After a gold and platinum record in 1990, the album was awarded the second platinum record in 1993 by the Federal Music Industry Association for more than one million records sold.
The album was remastered and re-released in 2000 .

reception
The specialist magazine Stereo named Halleluja “LP of the month”. The Musikexpress said in its review: “Rock 'n' Roll with German lyrics rarely sounded louder or better. Westernhagen restricts itself to the essentials: feelings instead of foolishness, teamwork instead of technology, sex instead of wrinkles in environmental politics ”.
