Ham radio
The Ham Radio (proper spelling: HAM RADIO meaning " Amateur Radio ", composed of ham , the English nickname for a radio amateur and radio to be translated here by " radio ") is a year in Friedrichshafen of this international trade fair for amateur radio.
history
After the exhibition was held at the old exhibition center in Friedrichshafen from 1976 to 2001, it has been held once a year since 2002 (mostly on a summer weekend from Friday to Sunday) on the grounds of the new Friedrichshafen exhibition center. With around 15,000 to 20,000 visitors, it is one of the largest amateur radio fairs in the world. Almost 200 professional exhibitors and more than 30 amateur radio associations from all over the world use them for presentations. The 45th execution planned for June 2020 had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
Fair
The fair gives all visitors, including amateur electronics enthusiasts , the opportunity to find out about the latest electronics and radio technology and to purchase radio devices , measuring devices and accessories such as antennas and tools .
In addition, it offers the worldwide community of radio amateurs a meeting place to exchange experiences and opinions. Also the worldwide networked amateur radio associations, such as the German Amateur Radio Club (DARC), the Austrian Experimental Broadcasting Association (ÖVSV), the Union of Swiss Shortwave Amateurs (USKA) or the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), which together in the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), a platform is offered here.
flea market
The accompanying flea market is considered to be the “largest radio flea market in Europe” and offers visitors from more than 60 countries the opportunity to purchase unusual objects for their hobby. Used equipment, components, books and other items related to amateur radio are offered for sale here.
Lectures
In addition, there is an extensive supporting program with specialist lectures in German or English on the subject.
