The Hamvention (more precisely: Dayton Hamvention ) is an international trade fair for amateur radio that takes place annually near Dayton ( Ohio ) .

history

The Dayton Biltmore Hotel was the first exhibition venue in 1952

After the first exhibition on March 22, 1952 at the Biltmore Hotel  (image) of Dayton, then still under the name QST March 1952 had taken place was in between 1964 and 2016, the Hara Arena , near Dayton, the venue of the Hamvention , where their name as a trunk word from Ham (nickname for radio amateur ) and Convention (English for event) was formed.

Since 2017 it has been held in May about 20 kilometers east of Dayton in the Greene County Fairgrounds near Xenia (Ohio) .

The Hamvention is one of the world's largest amateur radio fairs and gives more than 20,000 visitors the opportunity to find out about the latest radio technology and to purchase radio devices and accessories such as antennas every year . In addition, it offers the worldwide community of radio amateurs a meeting place to exchange experiences and opinions. The worldwide networked amateur radio associations, which are organized together in the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU), are also offered a platform here.

A very special attraction is the accompanying flea market , which offers international visitors the rare opportunity to purchase unusual objects for their hobby  (picture) . Used equipment, components, books and other items related to amateur radio are offered for sale here.

Lectures

In addition, there is an extensive supporting program with specialist lectures on the topic.

Ham radio

Ham Radio , which also takes place annually in Friedrichshafen, Germany, can be seen as the European counterpart to the Hamvention .

Ham Fair

The Japanese counterpart is the Ham Fair , also an annual amateur radio fair in the Japanese capital Tokyo .
