history
Since women were denied membership in Hamburg's rowing clubs in 1925 , Sophie Barrelet, Toni Brandt and Martha Marcus founded a women's rowing team at the General Alster Club (AAC). Within three years the team grew to 241 rowers. As a result, the independent "Hamburg Women's Rowing Association" was founded in 1929, which was given its current name in 1937. The club did not accept men until 2019. Then the statutes had to be changed after the responsible tax office intended to withdraw the non-profit status of the association, analogous to the associations that were previously reserved for men. In the spring of 2019, the following solution was found: Since neither space nor financial means allowed an adequate extension of the necessary sanitary facilities, men have since been admitted, but may at the same time be excluded from rowing.
