Hamed Attarbashi

Hamed Attarbashi (born August 7, 1976 in Hamburg ) is a German basketball coach of Iranian descent.

Coaching career

Attarbashi was born in Hamburg and grew up partly in Austria and the United States . At the age of eleven he came back to his hometown. After coming into contact with basketball at school, he played for TSV Sasel , and while still playing, he gained his first coaching experience in the youth department of BC Hamburg. He later started studying sports science at the University of Hamburg .

In 2004 he took up the position of youth coordinator at Paderborn Baskets . There he worked among other things as part of the “Talent Offensive in OWL” and was responsible for numerous areas of youth work in the Paderborn association. During his tenure, the U12 team became West German runner-up, in the U14 the regional league championship was won, in the U16 age group the Paderborn team advanced to the Northwest German Championships and the U18 reached third place nationwide. Attarbashi also succeeded in establishing several school working groups.

In 2007 he switched to Eisbären Bremerhaven . There he became head of the youth department and was, among other things, head coach of the club's U19 team and the men's team of BSG Bremerhaven in the 2nd regional league. In the latter, mainly talents were used. In 2012 Attarbashi led the U19 team to the final of the youth basketball league (NBBL) and was named NBBL coach of the year. Under his aegis, the polar bear offspring reached the NBBL playoffs every season. He also introduced twelve talents to the Bundesliga squad and played a key role in school projects and the establishment of a basketball boarding school.

In May 2013, Attarbashi became assistant coach in Bremerhaven's Bundesliga team after having worked in the coaching staff for the previous three and a half years.

In June 2014 he was hired by the newly founded Hamburg Towers as head coach. He led the team into the playoffs of the 2nd Bundesliga Pro A in their first season and agreed with the Towers on a new contract for the 2015/16 season. In March 2016, Attarbashi received an early contract extension with the Towers until 2018. In mid-February 2018, Attarbashi and the Towers separated. This was preceded by a negative series with only one win out of ten games and a slide to tenth place in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA.

From September 2018 to January 2019 he was assistant coach at the Bundesliga club MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg . He then worked as a teacher and, from August 2020, as an individual trainer in the junior division of SC Rist Wedel .
