Hamish Wilson (born December 13, 1942 in Glasgow , † March 26, 2020 in Rutherglen , Scotland ) was a British actor and radio producer.

Life

Hamish Wilson studied acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland . He played from the late 1950s to the early 1970s isolated supporting roles in a few television series, including This Man Craig and The Men of Cumberland . His best known portrayal was that of Jamie McCrimmon in the television series Doctor Who . He replaced the actual actor Frazer Hines for two episodes, as he had contracted chickenpox . He had another appearance in the Doctor Who universe in 2013 as Dr. JM Hiller in the TV movie Doctor Who: Besieged .

While getting his first offer for Doctor Who, Wilson kept afloat doing odd jobs and moving house. He himself could never establish himself as an actor and make a living from it. From the beginning of the 1970s he found a job as a radio producer at Radio Forth and Radio Clyde. In 1989 he moved to BBC Radio Scotland and later also became a producer on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 .

He died on March 26, 2020 at the age of 77 from complications from the COVID-19 disease during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK .
