Hamnvik (also Ibestad ) is a village in the Norwegian municipality of Ibestad , located in the province ( Fylke ) Troms og Finnmark . The place is the administrative center of Ibestad and has 478 inhabitants (as of 2019).

geography

Hamnvik is a so-called Tettsted , a settlement that is counted as one area for statistical purposes. As Tettsted it is carried under the name Ibestad.

The place is on the east coast of the island of Rolla . From there, the Ibestadtunnel leads in a north-easterly direction to the neighboring island of Andørja .

history

Until the end of 2019, the place belonged to the Fylke Troms , which became part of the newly created province of Troms og Finnmark on January 1, 2020 as part of the regional reform in Norway .

Just outside is the Ibestad kirke , a stone church from 1881.

economy

The industrial production is mainly based on the operation of fish breeding stations .
