Hanna is a small town in southern Alberta , Canada .

The main industries in Hanna are agriculture , oil production , tourism and hard coal mining . A trading area called Short Grass County surrounds the city, which is home to around 200 companies.

Several well-known Canadian personalities lived and worked in Hanna, including Shirley McClellan (politician), Marjorie Wilson (author), the rock band Nickelback and several hockey players.

Demographics

The city had 2,847 inhabitants in 2006, the number of which had dropped to 2,673 by 2011. The city covers 8.56 km², resulting in a population density of 312.3 inhabitants per square kilometer.

More than 90% of the population is English-speaking alone. The most widespread minority language is German with 50 speakers, ahead of Canada's second national language, French, with 25 speakers. Another 600 people with German as their mother tongue live in Alberta's statistical region No. 4 surrounding Hanna.
