Life

She was the daughter of Paul Julius Börner and Emma Marie Börner. Johanna Börner's school education took place in Penig. She was a gifted primary school student and graduated from the Penig Higher School in 1929. Johanna Börner began writing poetry in the first year of elementary school. Her verses were well received during her high school attendance, and at the age of 16 she was in charge of writing a school newspaper. Since then Johanna Börner has been called a local poet. In her early creative period, poetry of various types and themes, song texts (including self-set music), short stories, travelogues, short stories and documentaries - some of them in English.

In 1929 she began her professional engagement in Penig. In 1932 she went to England for a year to improve her English language skills. From 1933 to 1941 Johanna Börner worked as a management secretary and foreign language correspondent for English, French and Italian in the Peniger machine factory. In addition to her work, she studied French and Italian at the Berlitz School of Languages in Chemnitz . Further stays in England followed in 1937 and 1939. She married in 1941 and moved to Upper Austria, where she worked in her husband's family business until 1942. From the end of 1942 to 1943, she continued her professional career as an editorial secretary in Berlin. From mid-1943, Scharnstein was her permanent residence in the eastern Salzkammergut in Upper Austria. Central themes in Hanna Maria Drack's work are nature, the little things and joys in life, family, interpersonal relationships, home, social action, honesty, respect, international understanding and world peace. From 1941 onwards, life in the country in seclusion, far from cultural centers, posed no insignificant barriers to her literary career. At a time when women did not drive a car, telephone calls were expensive, computers and the Internet had not yet arrived, Hanna Maria Drack only had the typewriter and the mail. She loved the nature and the landscape of the Salzkammergut . This inspired her, which is clearly reflected in her work. In the creative period from 1941 onwards, he wrote poetry in rhyme and free rhythms , epigrams , aphorisms , haikus , poetry cycles, novels, short stories, radio plays, feuilletons , libretti , cheerful-critical, children's poems, children's books, children's songs and many song texts, to which they sometimes also use the Wrote melodies. Numerous texts have been set to music by renowned composers. She also wrote articles for school radio programs and textbooks in school operations, also in English, as well as works in Saxon, Upper Austrian and Viennese. Hanna Maria Drack worked for many years with the ORF (Austrian public radio and television company). A large part of her work has so far remained unpublished.
