Hannah Lamdan ( Hebrew חנה למדן; * as Hannah Lerner on January 5, 1905 in Schyliwzi , Russian Empire ; † April 10, 1995 in Cholon , Tel Aviv District ) was an Israeli politician who represented several left-wing parties in the Knesset from 1949 to 1965 .

life and career

Hannah Lerner was born in Schyliwzi in the Bessarabia Governorate of the Russian Empire (in today's Ukraine ). She attended a Hebrew-language school and then a Russian-language secondary school before emigrating to the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine in 1926 . She was a member of the youth organization Hashomer Hatzair .

Lamdan joined the Achdut HaAwoda party and worked as an activist within the Histadrut union . After she was elected to the Tel Aviv Workers 'Council, she headed the Workers' Department from 1937 to 1940 and was a member of its secretariat from 1944 to 1949.

Lamdan joined the Mapam in 1948 and was elected to the first Knesset in 1949. She was re-elected in 1951 but left Mapam on January 20, 1953 to found the independent faction of Achdut haAwoda with other former Mapam MPs. However, she joined the Mapai on January 13, 1954 .

She lost her seat in the 1955 general election but moved back to the Knesset on July 31, 1957 to replace Ehud Avriel , who had resigned from parliament and was appointed ambassador. She was re-elected in 1959 but lost her seat in the 1961 general election . However, she replaced the late Georg Josephthal in parliament from August 23, 1962 .

On July 14, 1965, Lamdan was one of eight MPs who left the Mapai, headed by David Ben-Gurion , to found the Rafi . She lost her seat in the general election that year .

Lamdan died in Cholon near Tel Aviv on April 10, 1995.
