Hannes Steinert

Hannes Steinert (born February 13, 1954 in Stuttgart ) is a German painter .

Life

Steinert studied from 1977 to 1980 at the Free Art School in Nürtingen and from 1981 to 1986 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart . In 1984 he received the Academy Prize and has been working as a freelance artist since 1986. In 1989 he received a scholarship from the Baden-Württemberg Cultural Foundation . From 1989 to 1993 he worked as a lecturer at the Filderstadt Art School and from 1993 to 1995 as a lecturer at the Kolping Art School in Stuttgart. In 1999 he received a scholarship from the state of Schleswig-Holstein and worked for a year at the Künstlerhaus Lauenburg an der Elbe.

From the beginning of his work as an artist he was an observer and commentator of the gay movement in Germany. From his early work to the present day, he has made male eroticism one of his main themes. As an openly gay artist, he himself understood his pictures and work from the start as part of the gay emancipation movement.

Since 1982 he has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Germany and abroad. He has also published book illustrations , catalogs and books.
