action

Detective Important has placed an advertisement in the newspaper looking for an intelligent employee. The jobless Oskar believes in all immodesty that the recruitment profile is exactly tailored to him and reports to the advertiser. Of course, in the first case, Oskar behaves rather stupidly, and so the long-sought deceiver Ganefsky escapes the detective through Oskar's clumsiness. Thereupon the important fires Oskar as quickly as he hired him. As the again unemployed Oskar strolls aimlessly and aimlessly through the streets, he discovers a poster with the search message: “Hanni, come back! Forgive everything! ". The seeker is the master baker Semmel, who put his daughter out in a dispute because she had dealings with a young man who did not suit him. Now the young luck has simply blown away. Since Oskar still has a business card from Detective Important with him, he goes to Master Semmel and introduces himself to Master Semmel, who of course wants to take on this case, but only against a small advance payment. He promises Semmel to persuade Hanni to return when he is found. With the money received, Oskar first dresses properly. Then he makes the acquaintance of a young lady in the city park and invites her to a little car game.

During this joyride, he sees a broken-down vehicle on the side of the road. He couldn't believe his eyes when he recognized Hanni by the broken car. And in her company is also the crook Ganefsky! In order not to screw anything up, Oskar decides to be more careful this time. He becomes acquainted with the two of them and they get closer to each other. The four finally come to the restaurant or the hotel "Zur golden Vier", where one also plans to spend the night. But now Oskar has already hit Semmel's entire advance payment on the head, so that he telegraphs his client to instruct him to pay more money, since he is on the trail of his daughter. However, Semmel becomes suspicious and goes to the detective agency Important. He is all the more astonished that the real detective is not the man to whom he gave the first advance payment. Semmel is pissed off and wants to go to the place where Oskar last reported to find out about the “cheater”. Ganefsky realizes that something is wrong and believes that important is on his trail. By a trick he can achieve important arrest. But this time Oskar is present and he succeeds both in arresting Ganefsky and in returning Hanni to her father. Detective Important now knows what he's got in Oskar and asks him to return to his detective agency.

Production notes

Hanni, come back! Forgive everything! , also known under the short title Return! Forgive everything! , was created in 1914 in the Union studio in Berlin-Tempelhof and was premiered on February 18 or 25, 1915, depending on the source. The three-act censorship test did not take place until the following month. In the same year, the detective fun game started in Austria-Hungary. The version there was 1070 meters long.

For the Viennese theater actor Oskar Sabo this was his first German film role.

criticism

“In essence a detective comedy, this delicious picture is developing into one of the greatest film drama that cinematographic art has created to date. (...) Hanni Weisse as the "little roll" is as charming as ever, Sabo has a diaphragmatic humor ... The Philipp & Pressburger company could hardly have started the new season with a better chosen comedy.
