Hanni Kowalczyk (born October 7, 1924 in Düsseldorf ; † April 4, 2004 there ) was a German graphic artist , typographer and author .

Life

Hanni Kowalczyk studied graphics from 1953 to 1957 at the Peter-Behrens-Werkkunstschule, later at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences . After completing her studies, she worked as a freelance graphic designer for publishers and companies. For the Magdalen publisher in Holzkirchen , she designed the annual in the 1970s and 1980s Spruchkarten calendar: words and thoughts . In these works she showed her diverse calligraphic and typographical skills.

With her typical handwriting, she shaped the style of the Magdalenen Verlag at the time for decades.

In her book , We Are Always in Your Ear, Prayers in the Present , published in 1978 , she started from a scriptural word into “prayers” that are close to our time. “Talking, listening, sharing, resting, stopping, forgiving, screaming, nailing down” are staged calligraphically in black and white in the space of the book. These texts have been and are cited and published in large numbers up to the present day. Some of the poems have been translated into Low German.

With the series “Pictures have thoughts”, published by Magdalenen-Verlag, she invited questions and answers. “Palaces, steps, pillars, ships, dreams, vertical, drops, outside” are the triggers for her reflections and images, which give the viewer scope for their own perspectives and perspectives.

In Düsseldorf dialect she wrote numerous articles in the Rheinische Post to “Leeve Tünnemann!” With Rhenish humor in the 1970s , critical local color observed by “Din Tante Billa”.

The legal successor for her graphic and editorial estate is her niece, the communication designer and professor Irmgard Sonnen .
