Hannover City 2020 + is an urban planning redesign project for public spaces and rooms in the city center of Hanover , which started in 2007 and will run until around 2025. It is a pilot project of the national urban development policy of the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development . No redesign measures had been implemented until 2011 as the project was still in the planning, discussion and information phase. In June 2012, the implementation began with the dismantling of the traffic circle on Klagesmarkt to an intersection .

The street space design of the redesigned squares and rooms runs right through the city center and primarily affects the Conrad-Wilhelm-Hase-Platz in front of the Christ Church , the Klagesmarkt, the Goseriede (with the Old St. Nikolai Cemetery ), the stone gate , the Marstall , the streets Leibnizufer and Am Hohen Ufer along the Leine , Friederikenplatz and Köbelinger Markt , one of the oldest historical places in Hanover. The redesign plans were drawn up with public participation.
The construction above the underground bunker under the Klagesmarkt was originally supposed to start in spring 2011. Instead, the bunker was demolished by 2014 and then the construction of the underground car park began. The seven-story office building was moved into at the beginning of December 2016. Several residential and commercial buildings had been built by the end of 2017. The square across from the Goseriede was expanded and redesigned from 2012 to 2014, including the area of the cemetery there . The Trammplatz was redesigned between June 2014 and March 2015. On the Hohen Ufer, preparations for residential development in 2013 led to urban archaeological investigations , where the bank was renovated and redesigned by autumn 2019 and several building projects were carried out. Two further construction phases south of the Marstalltor with moderate redesign measures were dispensed with. At Marstallplatz in the area of the former Hofmarstall on the Hohe Ufer , preparations for building began in 2015, and in 2019 the redesign of the park between two new buildings was completed.
