Hanns Kreczi

Hanns Kreczi (* 10. February 1912 in Vienna , † 25. June 2003 in Linz ) was an Austrian philosopher, historian and local historian and head of the Cultural Affairs Bureau and cultural affairs director at the magistrate of Linz.

Life

Hanns Kreczi was born in Vienna as the third child of the locksmith Johann Kreczi and the farmer's daughter Josefa, b. Hufnagl, born. He graduated with honors from the Amerling-Gymnasium in Vienna in 1931, then studied theology at the University of Bern and passed the final examination at the Old Catholic Church in Vienna. In 1937 he received his doctorate in philosophy, education and history from the University of Vienna. phil. In 1947 he passed the examination for academic library service at the National Library in Vienna .

From 1934 to 1936 Kreczi was an Old Catholic vicar and then until 1939 the parish administrator in Linz. In 1939 he joined the scientific service in the Linz City Archives . Between 1939 and 1944 he did military service, where he was disabled during the war. In 1944 he was drafted into military service as secretary to the mayor Franz Langoth .

In 1945 Kreczi became head of the city collections, in 1948 head of the cultural office and in 1952 cultural administration director of the city of Linz, which he remained until his retirement in 1977.

Kreczi wrote numerous books, scientific articles and essays into old age.
